After 13 years selling computers, in 1994 I had a brilliant idea for a story which became THE LAST TEMPLAR. Since then I've been a full-time author, writing over 50 novels, 6 novellas, a series of collaborative novels, including THE SINKING ADMIRAL with the Detection Club, and 6 Medieval Murderers stories, as well as one "How To" book, HOWDUNIT, also with the Detection Club.

In 2007 I was shortlisted for the Theakston's Old Peculier crime novel of the year for DEATHSHIP OF DARTMOUTH. Other honours include being International Guest of Honour at the Bloody Words gala 2014 and Grand Master of the first parade of the 2014 Mardi Gras in New Orleans.
