Jayandra Soni was born and brought up in Stanger, Natal, South Africa, where he did his schooling. BA University of Durban-Westville. 1975: M.A. (Philosophy) Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, India. Thesis: "The Problem of Alienation in Modern European Thought". 1978: Ph.D. (Philosophy) Banaras Hindu University. Thesis: "The Human Predicament: A Critique of Some Philosophical Perspectives." 1987: Ph.D. (Religious Studies) McMaster University, Hamilton. Ontario,Canada. Thesis: "Toward an Understanding of Man in Saiva Siddhanta: A Study in Philosophical Anthropology." Published as *Philosophical Anthropology in Saiva Siddhanta*, Delhi: Motilal Banarsidass, 1989. Since October 1991: Lecturer at the University of Marburg, Department of Indology and Tibetology to teach Indian Languages (Sanskrit, Hindi, Gujarati) and Indian Philosophy.
