Mohan Lal Gupta

Dr. Mohan Lal Gupta is an eminent Indian writer. He is A sensitive architect of words. From writing satires, dramas, poetries, gazals and short hindi stories to being a regular columnist in various dailies, Dr Mohanlal Gupta has won many accolades for his literary work. He is a linguistic genius. He has an extraordinary sensitivity for the world of words. Being a deft expressionist, he is endowed with a superior emotional quotient. He has penned down more than seven dozen books which include word & Indian history, satire, drama, poetry, gazal, novel, short stories and cultural studies.

He has made a dignified position for himself in the field of history, tourism and journalism and is credited for his ability to address the complex problems of human psyche in very simple words with all its vigour.

Having his first story collection published in 1986 titled ‘Shesh Yatra’, Gupta never looked back. His passion for literature has won him many accolades for his works like ‘Navjyoti Katha Samman’ and ‘Ankur Samman’ in 1998. He was given prestigious ‘Maharan Kumbha Samman 2009’ for the outstanding contribution to the Hindi literature and Ghanshyam Das Saraf Award 2002 y Marwari Sammelan Mumbai.

Starting from stories, he conveniently diversified to other fields of literature like Hindi gazals, plays, satires and novels where too he earned an astounding acclaim. He has so far published five short storie collections, one Hindi gazal collection and two satire collections. He also proved himself an authority in writing plays, of which, ‘Chitrakoot ka Raahi’ won him state level first prize by Jawahar Kala Kendra Jaipur for the year 2004. He wrote many plays for Hawa Mahal program of Vividh Bharti. His play collection Sapano Ka rajkumar gained wast popularity. Out of the six novels written by him, ‘Sangharsh’ was short-listed as the best Hindi novel by Marwari Sammelan Mumbai in 2002. The second novel, based on Abdul Rahim Khan-i-khana, was a hot sale. Its review was published in the ‘Panchjanya’. His third novel Paswan Gulabrai is often compared with Goli of Acharya Chatursen. His another novel Bhagwan Kalyan Rai Ke Ansu aur Maharaja Roopsingh Rathore acclaimed wast admiration of readers.

Gupta has a massive contribution in writing books on history and tourism of Rajasthan, which includes historical study of Rajasthan in seven volumes, which is a bible for those, who want to explore the state of Rajasthan. He has also written two historical serials. His encyclopedia on Rajasthan, Rajasthan ‘Gyan Kosh’, was again an appreciated work, which also has thirteen published editions so far.

He portrayed the modern history of Rajasthan in 100 parts in a series ‘Gora Hat Ja’ in a daily news paper of the state. Second serial ‘Lad ke liye Pakistan’ was also published in 15 parts. He has also regularly been writing columns ‘Raag Darbari’ and ‘Teesari Ankh’ in the famous Hindi dailies. About 50 stories, written by Gupta, have been translated and published into different magazines and journals in Rajasthani, Telugu and Marathi languages. His achievements have also found mentioning in the ‘Who’s Who of Indian Writers’ in 1999 published by ‘Kendriya Sahitya Academy’ and ‘Asia Pacific Who’s Who’ in 2001. He has also been awarded ‘Rashtriya Hindi Sevi Samman’ in the Centenary World Hindi Conference held at New Delhi in 2000.

Dr. Gupta served many managerial posts in various government departments like All India Radio, Regional Rural Bank, Jodhpur Vidyut Vitran Nigam and Information & Public Relations department of government of Rajasthan. He left the government service in 2016 when he was posted in Chief Minister's Office as Deputy Director. Presently, he is engaged with his writings only. Despite of his busy schedule as a public servant, his pursuit for literature is continuing unabated, which has a long path to tread and achievements to scale.

For book writing, Dr. Gupta has visited several famous cities like Rome, Florance, Pissa, Venecia, Bali, Jawa, Jakarta etc.
