Kate Marsh

Dr Kate Marsh is an Advanced Accredited Practising Dietitian (APD) and Credentialled Diabetes Educator (CDE) with a Masters of Nutrition and Dietetics and PhD in nutrition from the University of Sydney and a Graduate Certificate in Diabetes Education and Management from the University of Technology, Sydney.

Kate has significant experience in health and medical-related writing and editing for both health professional and consumer audiences. She is editor of the Australian Diabetes Educators Association (ADEA) member publication, the Australian Diabetes Educator (ADE), and writes regularly for Diabetic Living magazine and the limbic Diabetes Educator. She also provided website content for Diabetes NSW (formerly the Australian Diabetes Council) for more than 5 years.

Kate has published articles in a number of other consumer publications and medical journals, written four books and has contributed the dietary chapters to several textbooks on the topics of diabetes, vegetarian and plant-based diets, PCOS, insulin resistance, glycemic index and pregnancy. She also speaks regularly on these topics to both health professionals and consumers and is a guest lecturer on PCOS at The University of Sydney.

Kate is chair of the ADEA Editorial Advisory Group (EAG), and convenor of the Dietitians Association of Australia (DAA) National PCOS and Vegetarian Discussion Groups. She is on the editorial board for Diabetes Management Journal (DMJ), and is a Fellow and board member of the Australasian Society of Lifestyle Medicine (ASLM). Kate is a member of the Guideline Development Group for the PCOS International Evidence-Based Guidelines and the PCOS Centre for Research Excellence (CRE) Translation Committee. She was also a member of the working parties developing the current evidence-based guidelines for the diagnosis and management of PCOS and type 1 diabetes in Australia

Kate is a recipient of the DAA Young Achievers Award, was a finalist in the 2006 Telstra Business Women’s Awards, and was awarded the DAA Joan Woodhill Prize for Excellent in Research – Doctorate Award for her PhD study on low GI diets for women with PCOS. In 2015 she was awarded the inaugural ADEA National CDE of the Year.

In addition to her writing, Kate works in private practice in Sydney, Australia, where she provides individualised nutrition and diabetes education to those with type 1 diabetes, women with PCOS and those seeking advice on a plant-based (vegetarian or vegan) diet.
