Larry Starr

As a retired professor of music, I love music of all kinds, and aim to share my love of music with the widest audience of interested readers. Therefore, I write for those who simply want to immerse themselves in the experience of listening; I assume no particular specialized background or technical knowledge on the part of the reader. American music has always been a passion of mine, and my published books are all about American music: composers (Charles Ives, George Gershwin, Aaron Copland), the history of American popular music (a textbook, co-authored with Christopher Waterman), and most recently the recorded work of Bob Dylan. I hope that my books can serve both as introductions to readers less familiar with the music, and as sources of new insights for those who already know the music well.
