Michael Lerner is the Principal of Bard High School Early College - Manhattan, an innovative partnership between Bard College and the New York City Public School System. He received his Ph.D. in American history from NYU in 1999 and has taught at NYU, the University of Minnesota, and Barnard College. Dry Manhattan was named one of the 100 Top Nonfiction Books of the Year by the Washington Post (2007) and one of Slate's Best Books of the Year (2007). He frequently speaks on Prohibition and New York City history, and appeared in the Ken Burns and Lynn Novick documentary series Prohibition (2011). He lives in New York City.
