Richard King

Richard King was born in London and is a scholar of Indian philosophy and religion. He has worked in the UK and the USA and is currently Professor of Global Philosophy at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS, University of London), where he contributes to the World Philosophies programme which seeks to develop a decolonial, cross-cultural and global approach to Philosophy. King has written on postcolonial approaches to the study of Indian traditions, the history of Brahmanical and Buddhist philosophy (especially the relationship of early Advaita Vedanta and Indian Buddhism), capitalist forms of spirituality, and has also contributed to critical approaches to the category of “religion” and analysis of the emergence of “Hinduism” as a late modern/colonial category.
