Ross Melnick is Professor of Film and Media Studies at University of California, Santa Barbara. He is the author of "Hollywood Embassies: How Movie Theaters Projected American Power Around the World," and "American Showman: Samuel 'Roxy' Rothafel and the Birth of the Entertainment Industry" (2012). He is the co-editor of "Rediscovering U.S. Newsfilm: Cinema, Television, and the Archive" (2018) and is the co-author of "Cinema Treasures" (2004) and the eponymous website co-founded in 1999. His articles on film and media history have appeared in journals such as Cinema Journal, Film History, Historical Journal Film, Radio, and Television, and The Moving Image.
