Sandra McDonald

Lieutenant Sandra McDonald spent 8 years in the U.S. Navy tracking submarines, coordinating family services, and managing the barracks for more than 2,000 sailors (many of them away from home for the first time). After the military she worked in Hollywood (freeways, smog, and celebrities), assisted retired veterans, and taught college writing.

She writes military romance, speculative fiction, YA, and sometimes a little horror, too. Her first book of short fiction, Diana Comet and Other Improbable Stories, won a Lambda Literary award for transgender fiction. It is a Booklist Editor's Choice and American Library Association Over the Rainbow book.

Her short stories have appeared in magazines around the world and been including in several Year's Best and award-winning collections. Four of her stories have been noted by the James A. Tiptree Jr. Award honor list for excellence in gender and identity.
