Tim A. Flanagan

Tim is the co-owner of Custom Leadership Solutions with his wife Virginia. In this role, he designs and delivers programs on leadership, teamwork, conflict management, problem-solving, emotional intelligence, communication, organizational culture, and change.

A firm believer that differences and disagreements are quite natural, Tim helps others change their often negative perceptions about conflict. He is fond of saying, "It takes two to tango...but it only takes one to change the dance."

He is the co-author of three books: Becoming a Conflict Competent Leader, 2007, Building Conflict Competent Teams, 2008, and Developing Your Conflict Competence, 2010. He is the author of numerous articles and is a frequent presenter at national and regional conferences and meetings. Tim’s recent speaking engagements include: the Major League Baseball Winter Meetings, the Disney Leadership Conference, the American Cancer Society, the National Security Agency, the International Institute of Conflict Prevention and Resolution the national convention of the American Society of Training and Development, and the International Conference on Assessment Center Methods.

Tim is a Visiting Program Director and instructor with the U.S. Office of Personnel Management’s Western Management Development Center in Denver, Colorado. He manages projects for the National Security Agency, designs and delivers custom programs for a variety of agencies, instructs in open enrollment courses, and provides executive coaching for agency leaders. Tim is also a visiting instructor for programs in Management and Executive Education at the Crummer Business School, Rollins College, Orlando, FL. In addition, he is a senior fellow at the Center for Conflict Dynamics.

Tim earned his MA at the Ohio State University in education, specializing in adult learning, and his BA in psychology, history and education at Muskingum College. Tim’s experience includes: serving as director of custom programs at the Leadership Development Institute (a network affiliate of the Center for Creative Leadership), managing and delivering the executive leadership development programs at the 30,000 employee Harris Corporation, Melbourne, FL; directing the training and development organization for AAA Auto Club South, Tampa, FL; and senior level consulting roles with Development Dimensions International, Pittsburgh, PA, and Paradigm Learning, Tampa, FL. In his consulting roles, Tim has provided services to scores of Fortune 500 companies. He has also worked extensively in the public sector with experience at the federal, state and local government levels, the military, and with various non-profit organizations.

Tim and Virginia reside in St. Petersburg, FL, with Roovy the amazing black lab. They have two wonderful adult children, Lindsay and Kyle. He is an avid sports fan and enjoys scuba diving, camping, and hiking.
