Walter M. Hosack

WALTER M. HOSACK has leadership, management, design, and production experience in city planning, urban design, architecture, civil engineering, building regulation, code compliance, and zoning administration. Over the past 40 years, he has planned, designed, produced, and managed projects ranging in size from residential homes to $100 million commercial and institutional projects. This private practice is accompanied by public experience in the leadership of planning and development efforts at both the state and local levels of government.

He is the author of Land Development Calculations and attached software entitled, Development Capacity Evaluation published by The McGraw-Hill Companies, New York, NY, 2001, second edition 2010. The first edition was translated and published by The China Electric Power Press, Beijing, China in 2007.

He published The Science of City Design in 2016 and The Equations or Urban Design in 2020. "Equations" was written to improve the classification format used in "Science"; added equation derivation to each chapter; and expanded the illustrations included. The author recommends "Equations" and regrets not being able to reuse the title "Science" for this vastly improved effort.

His blog, "Cities and Design" is currently being read by individuals in over 80 countries and contains 200 essays as of this writing. It has welcomed over 32,000 readers and can be found at www.wmhosack.blogspot.com.

Mr. Hosack is retired and holds Bachelor's Degree in Architecture and a Masters Degree in Architecture and City Design from Miami University, Oxford, Ohio.

Until he retired, he was a charter member of the American Institute of Certified Planners, licensed as an architect by the State of Ohio, certified by the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards and a member of the American Institute of Architects.
