G. Larry Mays

Dr. G. Larry Mays is Regents Professor Emeritus of Criminal Justice at New Mexico State University. In the early 1970s he served in a variety of positions as an officer with the Knoxville, Tennessee Police Department. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in public administration from the University of Tennessee, a Master of Arts in political science from East Tennessee State University, and a Ph.D. in political science from the University of Tennessee. During his 36 year teaching career he held faculty positions at East Tennessee State University, Appalachian State University, as well as at New Mexico State University. He is author or editor of 22 books and has published over 100 articles, book chapters, and encyclopedia entries. Dr. Mays has received numerous professional awards throughout his career and in 1997 he was named New Mexico Professor of the Year by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and Council for Advancement and Support of Education.
