Murray Woolf was born in Tampa, Florida, in 1951, the 4th son (of 5) to Cy ad Jo Woolf. He has two children from a previous marriage (Susan and Laura) and resides in Rochester Hills, Michigan with his "princess," Vicki.
For 33 years Murray has devoted himself to the arcane field of Construction Scheduling, has accumulated hands-on scheduling experience on over 150 projects worldwide, across 30 different project types, ranging in size from $500K to $14B. He has taught, lectured, and written on scheduling topics over the decades. His book, "Faster Construction Projects with CPM Scheduling," is a best selling text at Amazon.com.
Murray was especially honored when James J. O'Brien offered to write the Foreword to Murray's book. Jim is a legend in the world of construction scheduling, author of the best-selling book "CPM in Construction Management," and affectionately regarded by schedulers worldwide as the "Father of Modern Scheduling." Naturally, Murray was utterly speechless when Jim proclaimed:
"Murray's book is, in my opinion, 'the real thing.' He has a profound understanding of what we are all about, what we are trying to accomplish, what we are doing right, what we are doing wrong, where we seem to be headed, what course adjustments we need to make, and what re-engineering we need to impose upon ourselves as a discipline - to get from the discouraging state we are in, to the dynamic state to which all professional schedulers aspire."
What greater testament to Murray's place in the history of construction scheduling that Jim's conclusion that, "I find that this book is full of ideas and concepts that are interesting and refreshing to me, a forty-four year scheduling veteran, and I would suggest that it is an equally good set of guidelines for the "rookies." It is also a must read for project owners, project directors and project managers."
Murray was hand-picked by the (then) Chairman of the College of Scheduling (a component of the Project Management Institute) to head up a global effort to craft best practices and guidelines for the scheduling discipline. He was the creative mind and inspirational force behind the SEI (Scheduling Excellenece Initiative) for nearly four years.
In 2006, Murray founded the International Center for Scheduling (ICS-Global), "a one-stop resource for both consumers and providers of construction planning and scheduling products, services, and personnel."
The company offers "a comprehensive array of products and services that provide powerful, affordable, much needed solutions to virtually all aspects of the construction Scheduling Practice. Seamlessly-integrated components strike a practical and functional balance between researching, educating, training, consulting, and implementing the spectrum of technological, methodological, philosophical, and cutting edge innovations in the field of Construction Planning and Scheduling."
