Robert J. Hedaya

Robert J. Hedaya, M.D., A.B.P.N., D.F.A.P.A.is referred to as a visionary in the field of psychiatry because of his data-driven systemic approach to mental health. Founder of The Center for Whole Psychiatry and Brain Recovery in Maryland, he has successfully helped patients with complicated medical situations heal and lead normal lives. Dr. Hedaya is a doctor's doctor, treating physicians and their families. He is a highly regarded teacher of his fellow psychiatrists and physicians, medical students, and other mental health clinicians.

Patients enjoy his full attention and commitment to their health. He often reduces or eliminates all or many of their medications after doing a thorough workup medically and psychologically. His approach based on and supported by hard science and medical research.

He evaluates and treats major psychiatric disorders by focusing on the evaluation and bi-directional interactions between and among a person’s hormonal system, immune system, gastrointestinal system, nutrition, environment, inflammation, infection, genetics, detoxification, cell signaling, life circumstance, age and gender.

Dr. Hedaya is diversely trained and experienced, board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, the American Board of Adolescent Psychiatry, and certified as proficient in psychopharmacology by The American Society of Clinical Psychopharmacology. Dr. Hedaya has been recognized as a Master Clinician in functional medicine by the Institute for Functional Medicine.

Dr. Hedaya has had an active private clinical practice while teaching at at the Georgetown University Medical Center School of Medicine where he is a clinical professor of psychiatry. He has been a consultant to the National Institute of Mental Health. Dr. Hedaya was selected to teach the first psychoendocrinology course at the Georgetown University Medical Center School of Medicine Department of Psychiatry.

He presents and teaches at medical and professional conferences across the country. He does free monthly Workshops by Phone for both medical and mental health professionals as well as lay people around the country. And, has frequently been an expert consultant on television on the Today Show, Fox, CBS Evening News, 20/20, MSNBC, and CNN.

Dr. Hedaya had received the Physician’s Recognition Award from the American Medical Association and has been voted Outstanding Teacher of the Year by the Georgetown University Medical Center Department of Psychiatry numerous times.
