Tim Phelps

Tim Phelps, Professor and Medical Illustrator, has been teaching and illustrating for 30 years in the Graduate Program of Art as Applied to Medicine at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, Maryland. He has received over 40 regional and national awards for his artwork published in textbooks, magazines, and professional journals. Projects have included multiple surgical texts and atlases on Otolaryngology, Orthopedic and Cardiac Surgery, and illustrations for Dog World and Cat Fancy magazines. He was the Art Director and primary illustrator for the “Johns Hopkins Family Health Book” (1999) and created over 600 pen and ink illustrations for a 2008 Merriam Webster Dictionary.

Tim is a Past President and Past Chair of the Board of the Association of Medical Illustrators (AMI). He recently received the Max Broedel Award for Excellence in Education from Association of Medical Illustrators in 2015.

Tim has been flame painting miniature diecast cars and trucks for 20 years. He has immersed himself in the history of the artfrom and in doing so has painted over 600 diecast cars. He is the author of “Up in Flames: The Art of Flame Painting” (MBI 2006). Tim was the artist and designer for Greenlight Toys “Up in Flames” 16 diecast car series in 2008 and 2009 available @ online toy and hobby sites.

His current authored and illustrated two-volume set of 11 x 11 inch full page and full color hardbound books containing over 140 nature mandalas: "Nature Mandalas Wonders of the Garden" and "Nature Mandalas: Wonders of the Earth, Wind, and Sea" (Schiffer 2016) celebrates the earth’s biodiversity and conservancy efforts to save it.
