Robert A. Dobie, M.D., is an otologist (a physician who limits his practice to problems of the ear and related structures). After undergraduate and medical education at Stanford University, he completed a residency in otolaryngology (ear, nose, and throat) at Stanford, as well as fellowships in auditory physiology (at LSU Medical School) and neurotology (at the University of Zurich). During his career he has received numerous research grants from the National Institutes of Health and other agencies, and served as president of the Association for Research in Otolaryngology. He has served on the boards and councils of many professional organizations and on the editorial boards of several journals. The author of over 175 publications, he is currently clinical professor of otolaryngology at both the University of Texas (San Antonio) and the University of California (Davis).
