Author, essayist, and poet Dia Calhoun won the Mythopoeic Fantasy Award for Children’s Literature for her novel Aria of the Sea. Three of her eight novels are American Library Association Best Books for Young Adults. Calhoun’s contemporary verse novel Eva of the Farm was a Hornbook Magazine Best Verse Novel. Reviewing Calhoun’s book After the River the Sun School Library Journal wrote—“Lovers of gaming and Arthurian legends will thoroughly enjoy this one.”
With Howard Behar, retired president of Starbucks International, and Lorie Ann Grover, Calhoun co-authored The Magic Cup: A Business Parable About a Leader, A Team, and the Power of Putting People First (Hachette).
Calhoun is a co-founder of the social media literacy project readergirlz—recipient of the National Book Foundations Innovations in Reading Prize. She writes weekly 7:30 BELLS blog essays exploring creativity and inspiration. Guest bloggers contribute posts on the second Tuesday of every month.
Calhoun has taught at Seattle University and The Cornish College of the Arts. She does author visits to schools and groups, and offers private coaching in writing to kids and adults via Skype and the Internet .
