Alan Barker

Alan Barker’s work focuses on words, both spoken and written. He runs copywriting masterclasses for the Chartered Institute of Marketing, speechwriting courses for the European Speechwriter Network, and workshops for speakers at the British Science Festival. He helps subject matter experts translate their knowledge into briefings for government ministers.

And he’s written over 25 books.

In his previous career, Alan was a professional actor. Working in the Royal Shakespeare Company, regional theatres and BBC Radio, he discovered how language influences an audience. 'How to Improve Your Communication Skills' (now in its 7th edition) shows how to use the same techniques in our conversations and presentations at work.

'The Complete Copywriter' is the definitive guide to marketing with words.
