Thomas W. Blume

I entered the field of family therapy after working with addicted male soldiers in Vietnam and teaching preschool children in nursery schools and day care centers. I returned to the addiction field as a family therapist, this time with a focus on adolescents, earning a PhD in Marital and Family Therapy from Texas Tech University.

I see gender and power as primary organizing principles in people's lives, I understand people as influencing each others' development throughout the lifespan, and I promote a view of helping which works with cultural, economic, and family contexts. My postmodern, feminist perspective emphasizes language, agency, and social change.
