Chloe E. Bird

Chloe E. Bird is a Senior Sociologist at RAND and professor of Policy Analysis at the Pardee RAND Graduate School. She studies social and biological determinants of differences in men’s and women’s health and health care, and develops approaches to closing the gaps in the evidence base for health and health care of women and female-identified persons. She has served as a senior advisor in the National Institutes of Health’s Office for Research on Women’s Health and as editor-in-chief of the journal Women's Health Issues, and received the Distinguished Career Award in the Practice of Sociology from the American Sociological Association.

In her book, Gender and Health: The Effects of Constrained Choice and Social Policies, she and coauthor Patricia Rieker integrate social and biological models to improve understanding of how differences in men's and women's lives contribute to differences in their health. This work expands the study of health and health disparities by shedding light on the how decisions beyond the level of the individual shape men's and women's opportunities to purse a healthy life.

She lives and works in Santa Monica with her two sons.
