Branko Mitrovic

I am an architectural historian with a dual background in architecture and philosophy. I work, research and publish in both fields. My architectural work mainly concentrates on the history of Renaissance architecture. Here belong my books "Canon of the Five Orders of Architecture" (Acanthus, 1999, a translation of with a commentary on Giacomo Barozzi da Vignola's "Regola delli cinque ordini"), "Learning from Palladio" (Norton, 2004, an analysis of Andrea Palladio's design theory), "Andrea Palladio's Villa Cornaro in Piombono Dese" (co-edited with Stephen R. Wassell, Acanthus, 2006), "Serene Greed of the Eye"(Deutscher Kunstverlag, 2005, on Leon Battista Alberti's architectural theory). In architectural theory I have published a number of books that analyse links between architecture and philosophy: "Philosophy for Architects" (Princeton Architecture Press, 2011), "Visuality for Architects" (University of Virginia Press, 2013) and "Architectural Principles in the Age of Fraud" (Oro Books, 2022). In philosophy, my work has mainly concentrated on the philosophy of history and its history: "Rage and Denials" (Penn State Press, 2015) and "Materialist Philosophy of History (Lexington, 2020).
