Jeff Heaton

Jeff Heaton, Ph.D., is a computer scientist whose work covers artificial intelligence, software development, and simulation. His career has combined hands-on development, applied research, teaching, and technical communication. Jeff’s consistent focus has been unraveling complex systems, building useful open-source tools, and making complex technology accessible to others.

Jeff is currently the Vice President, AI Innovation at Reinsurance Group of America. He is an adjunct instructor at Washington University in St. Louis, where he teaches graduate courses in deep learning and generative AI. Through his YouTube channel, courses, books, and publications, he shares practical knowledge of AI and computer science with students, researchers, software developers, and business leaders.

His current work includes Dynaface, an open-source platform developed in collaboration with Johns Hopkins University for AI-assisted facial symmetry research, available as a free mobile app. Research using Dynaface has appeared in medical journals and been covered in the media. Jeff’s research interests include artificial life, medical computer vision, and the simulation argument.
