Mabel Morana

Mabel Morana'a work focuses on topics related to the field of cultural theory, from colonial times to the present. Her works offer a thorough critical reading of key Latin American authors and literary works from the perspective of current debates, and advance a critique of modernity (national cultures, baroque/neobaroque, postmodern / postcolonial imaginaries) that incorporates Latin American perspectives. She has produced more than 30 books on literary criticism, cultural critique, cultural studies and postcolonial topics. Some of the issues explored in her books are: the politics of literary writing, gender issues, the connections between culture, polical agency and social change, the role of ideology in the construction of collective imaginaries, the transformation of intellectual work, and the strategies of symbolic representation in literary works. Dr. Morana has also conducted research and published articles on visual imaginaries in colonial and contemporary times, on the theoretical and sybolic undertanding of violence and on the role of race and class in colonial and modern literary works.
