Alejandro Manara

Alejandro Manara (1954) was born in Buenos Aires. His father was Italian and his mother Argentine of Swiss origins. After high-school he left for Europe where he lived for eleven years moving between London, Paris, Milan, Barcelona and Palma de Mallorca. He studied literature and film in London and got a B.A. from King's College, U. of London in 1976. In 1978 he travelled to Tokyo and eventually lived there for a year. Back in Europe he was hired by a French bank and moved back to Buenos Aires, but after 22 months in 1984 decided he had enough of working at the bank and opened a small restaurant, Cook & Bardelli which he managed until 1990. In 1986 he married Juana Benedit in Venice. Olivia was born in 1991. In 1993 they moved to North Carolina, where at Duke University he studies for a Ph.D. in Literature. Lucila, their second daughter was born in Durham in 1994. Juana and the girls move back to Buenos Aires in 1999 and Alejandro does so in 2000.

He has published Tigre Hotel (1993), Bebiendo Tristes, Bailando Graves (1997) and Pasion de Fondo (2006).
