Dawn Karen Tan is a writer with more than 18 years experience in publishing. She has worked for Euromoney, Euroweek and The Piccadilly Post in the United Kingdom, for the Financial Markets and Commodities desk at the Business Times and for Mediacorp in Singapore.
She has published nine titles and is currently working on her tenth - a travel narrative work based on a two month road trip across six states in India to find vanishing tribal groups. Dawn published her first book, bestseller Khameleon, The Elyamani Khamis Story in 1993. She went on to publish bestseller Broken Mirror (2001) and Awakenings (2003) true stories about drug abuse, and Daughters of Asia (2004) a collection of inspirational stories about South East Asian Women Leaders. In 2005 she wrote and published Food From the Heart, The Culinary Heritage of Malaysia, which won the 2006 Gourmand World Cookbook Award for Best Heritage Writing. In 2008 she authored The Raffles People, a book about Singapore's Raffles Hotel, to commemorate the legendary hotel's 120th anniversary. Her most recent work, How To Nurture Creativity in Kids was published in 2009.
Dawn is an established public speaker and is a regular guest at regional schools where she reminds the adults that risk, experimentation and failure are critical to the development of creativity in children.
When Dawn is not traveling the globe, trekking the Himalayan foothills in search of Bengal tigers and Asiatic elephants, she writes on Planet Phantasmagoria, where she lives with her two daughters, three dogs, four cats, and a voracious turtle named Minnie.
