Dicky Sofjan

Dicky Sofjan is the author of Why Muslims Participate in Jihad: An Empirical Survey on Islamic Religiosity in Indonesia and Iran (2007). Sofjan studied Islam through mentoring, experiential learning and research. Born in Indonesia, he traveled, lived, studied and worked in almost 20 countries for more than 15 years, including in the Middle East.

For his academic achievements, Sofjan has received numerous awards, among others the prestigious Fulbright and Chevenings scholarships. He completed his Ph.D. in Political Science from the National University of Singapore. His professional engagements has been with the United Nations, The Nature Conservancy and The Nippon Foundation. He teaches politics, international relations and English.

He is passionate about life and living, and expects all faithful Muslims to live their lives (in this world!) to the fullest. Sofjan is an avid sportsman, holding a brown belt in Karate, and also an advanced diver.

He now lives in an idyllic village in Yogyakarta, Indonesia.
