Andreas Hepp

Andreas Hepp studies how digital media and artificial intelligence change the way we live together. He is Professor of Media and Communication Studies at the University of Bremen, where he heads ZeMKI, and leads the DFG/FWF research unit "Communicative AI". For more than ten years, he has spent time where tech futures are tried out long before they reach the rest of us: in maker spaces and self-tracking meetups, at crypto gatherings and in AI safety forums, in Silicon Valley, Europe and Shenzhen. What drives him is not the next gadget but the question behind it: who decides what our digital future looks like? He has written fourteen books, including "The Mediated Construction of Reality" with Nick Couldry, is a Fellow of the International Communication Association and has been a visiting scholar at LSE and Stanford.
