Tom W Parkin (born 1951) in British Columbia, Canada, has been writing non-fiction since the 1980s, with his first book appearing in 1989 as a co-authored title. All five of his books are now out of print, but can still be found on the secondary market. Parkin's authorial interests include history, natural history, and outdoor recreation. He has also been a prolific writer and photographer for newspapers and periodicals, with hundreds of credits in Canada and the USA. He is currently working on a historical coming-of-age novel set in the mountains of British Columbia during the final years of the Edwardian era.
Since retirement in 2018, Tom has focused his freelance writing on western Canada railway history. The magazines of four historical societies have taken the largest number of his features (some up to 4,000 words), but are distributed primarily to members: The Sandhouse, CP Tracks, Branchline, and Canadian Rail. In 2023, Tom W Parkin established a website under his personal name so to more directly make contact with his readers.
