Robert Henson

Robert Henson (@bhensonweather on Twitter) is a Colorado-based science journalist and meteorologist. He is a regular contributor to Yale Climate Connections and the Washington Post's Capital Weather Gang and a contributing editor at Texas Climate News and Weatherwise magazine. From 2015 to 2020, Henson co-produced the Category 6 news site at Weather Underground. Prior to that, he wrote hundreds of web and print articles during more than 20 years at the National Center for Atmospheric Research.

Henson's books include "The Thinking Person's Guide to Climate Change" (AMS, 2nd edition, 2019) and "Weather on the Air: A History of Broadcast Meteorology" (AMS, 2010). He is coauthor with C. Donald Ahrens of the textbooks "Meteorology Today" (Cengage, 13th edition, 2022) and "Essentials of Meteorology" (Cengage, 8th edition, 2017).

From 2018 to 2021, Henson served an elected term on the AMS Council, the governing body of the American Meteorological Society.

A native of Oklahoma City, Henson earned his bachelor's degree at Rice University and a master's degree at the University of Oklahoma. His interests include photography, bicycling, urban design, renewable energy, and popular culture.
