The Honorable Linda Bauer holds a MS degree from Virginia Tech and a BS from Bowling Green State University. She has been a self-syndicated food and travel columnist for a variety of newspapers for the past 24 years, writing columns and restaurant reviews in New York, Miami Herald, for the Journal in Washington DC, Columbus and Cleveland Plain Dealer, Ohio, and Houston Chronicle, TX. She is currently the travel editor for Reviewit Magazine and a contributor to Prime Living. Linda has appeared several times at the National Press Club and her book Recipes from Historic America was chosen for one of the club's fabled food and wine dinners. She has appeared at Kentucky, Texas and Ohio Book Fairs, plus the Book and Cook in Philly. She has been a featured speaker at Southwest and Texas Book Festivals, numerous Food and Wine Festivals and on several luxury World Cruises. She is a frequent lecturer for numerous and varied organizations on literacy, education, travel, food and writing.
Linda is the author of The American Sampler Cookbook, with the favorite recipes of the President and Congress. The New American Sampler Cookbook, a sequel was published by Kent State University Press. The advances and royalties were donated to the American Red Cross and World Vision respectively and benefited Share Our Strength and PBS. The books were featured on CNN, The Today Show, CBS This Morning and numerous other programs and radio shows. The Food Network featured her cookbooks on two of their programs and Jim Coleman's NPR's Chef's Table and Chef to Chef. The third book in this series, The Great American Sampler Cookbook, was done entirely for the benefit of the National Center for Family Literacy.
Linda co-authored Recipes from Historic Texas, in its second printing with her husband, Col Steve Bauer. It is a collection of 66 restaurants all located in historic buildings in Texas, and it contains the history of each building and 132 of the chef's favorite recipes. They also wrote Recipes from Historic Louisiana, with a portion of the proceeds going to hurricane relief, and Recipes from Historic America, Recipes from Historic Colorado, Recipes from Historic California, and Recipes from Historic New England. Both Steve and Linda appeared on Fox and Friends, Fox News in Dallas and Orlando, and NBC. Steve and Linda were honored as Champions of Literacy at an event that raised over $150,000 for Literacy Advance in Houston and both were honored by Be Angel Foundation.
Linda Bauer is a member of the National Press Club, American Society of Journalists and Authors, International Association of Cooking Professionals, and earned her CTI designation from Toastmasters International. She has been listed in Who's Who in American Women and Who's Who in the Media numerous times. Linda was selected for Who's Who Among America's Teachers 2006. She has been a member of International Food Writers and Travel Writers Assoc. & National Food Editors and Writers Association and is a current member of National Trust for Historic Preservation. She was a Capitol Hill Intern during Watergate, a teacher in Ohio and Bogotá, Colombia, and an educational administrator in Virginia. Linda was elected to the Texas State Board of Education in 2002 and represented 1.5 million constituents.
