Edward Bleiberg earned a Ph.D. in Egyptology from the University of Toronto in 1984. From 1986 to 1998 he worked as both Associate Professor of Egyptology and Director of the Institute of Egyptian Art and Archaeology at The University of Memphis. There he did field work at the Great Hypostyle Hall of Karnak Epigraphic Survey.
In 1998 he joined the Brooklyn Museum’s Department of Egyptian, Classical and Ancient Near Eastern Art as Associate Curator. In 2006 he was promoted to full Curator and in 2008 he became Managing Curator for Ancient Egypt, Africa, and Asia. He has curated four traveling exhibitions from Brooklyn’s collection including “Jewish Life in Ancient Egypt,” “Tree of Paradise,” “To Live Forever,” and “Soulful Creatures: Animal Mummies from Ancient Egypt.”
