Robert B. Mitchell

Robert B. Mitchell is a retired Washington journalist and award-winning author who has written about the Civil War, the populist movement of the late nineteenth century and other topics for The Washington Post and America's Civil War magazine. His book "Skirmisher: the Life, Times, and Political Career of James B. Weaver" won the Benjamin F. Shambaugh Award from the State Historical Society of Iowa in 2009. His latest work is "The Partisans: James G. Blaine, Roscoe Conkling, and the Politics of Rivarly and Revenge in the Gilded Age." Mitchell retired in 2023 after more than 20 years as a news service editor for the Washington Post. He is a graduate of Grinnell College.
