Justin Guariglia

Justin Brice Guariglia was born in 1974 in Maplewood, New Jersey, growing up next to the home and legend of Hudson River School painter Asher B. Durand.

At the age of 21, he moved to Asia. Schooled in the liberal arts at Wake Forest University, Guariglia worked briefly in Silicon Valley immediately out of college, but unimpressed by the long ciphers of cryptography, turned to photography and moved back to the metropolises of Asia as economic prosperity boomed and the information age blossomed, the confluence of which seemed to cause the genetic code of everything to rapidly evolve in real-time, before one's very eyes.

His work subsequently examines the intersection of the hybridized, copied, cloned, altered, permuted, artificial, with the genuine, and the natural, raising questions about authenticity and value in our increasingly synthetic world.

The current body of work that is seen here is a photographic trilogy that examines the past, present and future. Entitled Deep Time, Paradise Remixed, and Final Home, these three bodies of work are ongoing, and like our memories, experiences, and dreams that they relate to, are constantly changing.
