Piya Pangsapa

Piya Pangsapa is a bi-lingual Thai national who was born and raised in Bangkok, and attended university in the US. She holds a BA, MA and PhD in Sociology from the University at Albany - State University of New York, Brandeis University, and Binghamton University - State University of New York, respectively.

Her first book, Textures of Struggle (2007) is based on her doctoral dissertation, which received the Cheryl Allyn Miller Award Honorable Mention for Outstanding Contribution to the Field of Women and Work by the Sociologists for Women in Society of the American Sociological Association in 2002.

Piya is a former faculty member at the University at Buffalo - State University of New York, Global Gender Studies Department and was Head of the Institute for Gender and Development Studies at The University of the West Indies, Trinidad & Tobago.

She is currently an adjunct faculty member at the School for Global Studies at Thammasat University, Rangsit Campus and is working on a Bangkok-based book project that profiles accomplished, prominent, interesting, and/or remarkable people in from a wide range of professions. She is also a contributing digital feature writer for MICHELIN Guide Thailand.
