I'm an award-winning author, journalist and passionate Linux advocate. I live in the most beautiful part of northern Britain.

I've always loved computers. Barely a day has gone by since the age of eight - when I got my first one - when I haven't used some kind of computer.

College was an arts degree. When I left I started a decade-long career in computer magazine journalism. Eventually I edited several best-selling international titles, including Linux User & Developer, PC Utilities and PC Extreme. I've written literally hundreds of articles for magazines and websites around the world, and it's always been my aim to make computing accessible and interesting to everyone.

Nowadays I dedicate my life to writing.
