Alan Ross

Alan Ross is the author of 32 books—29 on sports history or sports-related themes, including Away from the Ball (Cumberland House), a look at philanthropy and civic-minded service in the National Football League. He has contributed to The Sporting News’ Special Collectors Editions, the official Pro Football Hall of Fame yearbooks, and NFL.com, in addition to the Arizona Cardinals, Cleveland Browns, and San Diego Chargers media and fan publications. For the past quarter of a century, Mr. Ross has been the Hall of Fame writer for Lindy’s Pro Football, one of the top three pro football preseason annuals in America.

A former four-time advertising agency creative director decorated with more than 70 creative excellence awards, including three-time recognition as a CLIO finalist, Mr. Ross spearheaded the multimedia campaign for Vanderbilt University football that captured the national EFFIE award (1980) as the top public service campaign in America. He is also the former west region editor for American Profile, at one time the nation’s sixth largest weekly publication, penning more than 35 national cover stories for the magazine. Prior to that, he served as an editor for Walnut Grove Press and Athlon Sports. He is a member of the Pro Football Researchers Association (PFRA).
