Alan M. Polansky

Alan M. Polansky is an associate professor of Statistics in the Division of Statistics at Northern Illinois University. He earned his Ph.D. in statistical science from Southern Methodist University in 1995. He is a student of William R. Schucany. His research interests include nonparametric statistics, resampling methods, statistical analysis of network data, and Bayesian methodology.

Personally, Alan plays bass guitar and has been in several bands in the De Kalb area that have concentrated on everything from heavy metal to blues and spiritual music. He is currently experimenting with avant garde atmospheric music with his new band Kafka's Disciple. He is a deadicated follower of the Grateful Dead and has an extensive digital archive of live shows.

He is married to Prof. Catherine E. Check, a chemist and physicist at Rock Valley College in Rockford, IL. They have a son, Alton, who is five.
