John Gerlach

I have been a full-time nature and outdoor photographer for more than four decades. I enjoy tremendously spending most of my time in wild places all over the world making images of wildlife, landscapes, and close-ups. I am known for pushing the photo technology really hard to help me capture the images I seek.

In addition to shooting images, I especially enjoy teaching and do so with intense enthusiasm and passion for the science and art of outdoor photography. Over the decades, I have led hundreds of one-day seminars and longer photo workshops all over the world, including more than forty photo tours to Kenya and twenty to the Galapagos.

In addition to numerous articles and my column in Nature Photographer magazine and Canon's Digital Learning Center, I have written several books that are very highly rated here at Amazon. These books include: Digital Nature Photography: The Art and the Science, Digital Landscape Photography, Digital Wildlife Photography, and Close Up Photographing in Nature. My latest book on advanced outdoor flash strategies and techniques is called Outdoor Flash Photography. It is full of cutting-edge flash techniques that are especially useful to outdoor and nature photographers.
