Jane Margolis

Jane Margolis is a Senior Researcher in Education at UCLA. For the last 25 years she has focused on inequities in computer science education as a civil rights issue. She has co-authored award-winning books about computing education as a window into how segregation is produced and reproduced: Unlocking the Clubhouse: Women in Computing (MIT, 2002) and Stuck in the Shallow End: Education, Race, and Computing (MIT, 2008 and 2017). Her most recent book Power On! (MIT, 2022), with lead author Jean Ryoo, is a graphic novel for middle and high school students that follows the experiences of 4 high school youth who discover the serious consequences of underrepresentation in computing and how they decide to take action so that all students can have the education they deserve. In 2016, Margolis received the Obama White House Champion of Change award.
