Daniel L. Gilbert

Daniel L. Gilbert writes historical and contemporary fiction exploring faith, courage, and the movement of ideas across cultures and civilizations. He is the author of Magi: A Novel (Paraclete Press, 2007), a work of biblical historical fiction inspired by the story of the Magi in the Gospel of Matthew, and Escape from Cairo, a contemporary novel set in modern Egypt. He recently completed Letters from a Sanctuary City, a historical novel set in first-century Ephesus.

Gilbert teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in business and management and has a longstanding academic interest in how ideas, commerce, and communication networks shape societies. That interest informs much of his historical fiction, particularly his exploration of how the Christian faith spread through the trade routes and cities of the Roman Empire.

He grew up hearing vivid retellings of biblical narratives from his father, an experience that continues to influence his storytelling. His work seeks to illuminate the human drama behind the events of Scripture and the lives of those who first carried its message across the ancient world.
