I was born and raised in the college town of Stillwater, Oklahoma. I left Stillwater after graduating Oklahoma State to pursue big city dreams that took me to New York, Moscow and Washington, D.C., but since 1998 I have called Wichita, Kansas home. I spent 15 years as a newspaper journalist, and then another 15 years exploring a variety of professions: philanthropist, children’s book author, nonprofit communications director, grant-writer, middle school English teacher, university PR person, college adjunct. Through it all, I have always been a story-teller looking to make the world a better place. My three children’s books and two adult memoirs were all written as my life has been lived -- with purposeful vulnerability meant to engender compassion and inspire hope.
