Dr. SerenaGaia, aka Serena Anderlini-D’Onofrio, PhD, is a conscious educator and sage who focuses on the connection between love, ecology, sexuality, and human existence.
Her wide-ranging experience ranges from a full academic career to being a respected elder, conscious facilitator, and trusted reference figure in a number of intentional and sex-positive communities.
“Make love the ecology of your life” is her guiding principle.
With a PhD from the University of California (1986), Dr. SerenaGaia went on to become a full Professor of Humanities and Cinema at the University of Puerto Rico (2017).
Amorous expression, gender dynamics, and intentional communities were always significant tropes in her research and teaching.
As an expert in the ecology of love, in the 2010s she became a leader in the ecosexual movement. She is now an ISTA and Awaken As Love graduate, trained in Tantra, Tao, ecosexual expression, massage, and holistic bodywork. She has held numerous retreats, and has facilitated events, workshops and temple evenings in Hawaii, Sweden, Italy, the USA, Portugal, India, Puerto Rico and Estonia.
The practice of holistic health is the basis of her vibrant elderly energy and well-being. She prefers vegetarian diets, non-violent communication and natural treatments. She avoids alcohol, and devotes time to daily practices like inner meditation, yoga exercise, Tao Inner Smile, Tantra, walking and swimming.
Dr. SerenaGaia believes that “a world where it is safe to love is a world where it is safe to live,” and creates that world with her sacred activism.
As a sex-positive educator who has been involved with the Ecovillage Movement since 2005, she keynoted at the Ecosex Symposium in 2012 and at Loving More in 2007. She presented at GEN in 2017 and 2018.
Landmarks of her life’s work include: the collection Ecosexuality (2015), the film Playa Azul I Love You (2016), and “her prophetic books,” including Eros (2016) and Gaia (2009), that “have inspired readers around the world,” as Dr. Susan M. Block has said. Edited and peer-reviewed collections also include: Women and Bisexuality (2003), Plural Loves (2005), Bisexuality and Queer Theory (2010), and more.
She is fluent in English, Italian, French and Spanish.
