Le Nguyen Binh received the degrees of B.E.(Summa Cum Laude) and PhD in Electronic Engineering (integrated Optics) and Dr.Eng in Photonic Communications Engineering . In 1995 he was appointed as Reader/Professor of Monash University, Melbourne Australia after some years research in high performance computing with CSIRO Australia (CSIRO=Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization) , Canberra. He is a chartered engineer.
He has worked on several major advanced world-class projects, especially the Tb/s and 100 Gb/s DWDM optical transmission systems and networks employing both direct and first generation coherent transmission and reception techniques in the Dept. Optical Communications of Siemens AG Central Research Laboratories in Neu Perlach, Munich, Deutschland and the Advanced Technology Center of Nortel Networks Inc. at Harlow, England. He was appointed the Tan-Chin Tuan Professorial Fellow of Nanyang Technological University of Singapore and Professorial Fellow at the Christian Albretchs University zu Kiel, Germany and a number of Australian universities.
Le Binh has authored and co-authored of more than 300 papers in leading journals and refereed conferences and a number of books (14 in total) in the field of photonics and digital optical communications, published by CRC Press, Taylors and Francis Group LLC. of Boca Raton, Florida (USA) and online book by Inst. of Physics, UK. His current research interests are in integrated electro-photonics, advanced modulation formats for superchannel long haul optical transmission, electronic equalization techniques for optical transmission systems, ultra-short pulse lasers and photonic signal processing, optical transmission systems and network engineering, Integrated photonics technology for data center interconnections and transmissions and FTTA (Fiber to the Antenna 5G) and FTTx, 5G IoT (Fiber to the IoT), FTTA (Fiber to the antennae). He currently lead programmes on optical test equipment R&D. He has contributed to the concept and novel testing of 110GHz BW, 200GSa/s digital oscilloscope for ultra-fast digital optical communication technology.
Dr.Dr.Eng. Prof. Binh developed and read several courses in engineering such as Fundamentals of Electrical Engineering, Physical Electronics, Small Signal Electronics, Large Signal Electronics, Signals and Systems, Signal Processing, Digital Systems, Micro-Computer Systems, Electromagnetism, Wireless and Guided Wave Electromagnetics, Communications Theory, Coding and Communications, Optical Communications, Advanced Optical Fiber Communications, Advanced Photonics, Integrated Photonics-currently on Si photonics, Fiber Optics. While in the academic institutions, he has also lead several courses and curricula developments in electrical and electronic engineering (EEE) and joint courses in physics and EEE.
Since January 2011 Dr.Dr.Eng. Binh joined European Research Center of Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. as Technical Director, working on several engineering aspects of 100G, 400G, then 800G per wavelength carrier to multi-Tbps long haul and metro coherent and non-coherent optical transmission networks. He has been awarded three GOLD MEDALS by Huawei Technologies for his works on advanced photonic communication technologies and electro-photonic integrated circuits. He has contributed to wideband and low noise differential high transfer impedance electronic amplifiers and optical reception using novel feedback and ultra-wideband travelling wave amplifier for 0-110GHz front end real-time sampling signal analyzer.
Professor Dr. Dr.Eng. Le Binh has been acting as a Series Editor "Optics and Photonics" for CRC Press and was (1995-2005) the Chair of the Commission D (Electronics and Photonics) of the national Committee of Radio Sciences of the Australian Academy of Sciences. He currently serves on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Optical Engineering (SPIE) and on technical Committees of several International Conferences.
Le Binh is an alumnus of the Phan Chu Trinh High School of Phan thiet, Vietnam.
