Paul Bright

I originally trained as an engineer - which is rather unusual for a children's author - and spent many years working for companies making and using plastics, in England, Switzerland, The Netherlands, and Spain. I used to make notes for stories when I was sitting in meetings, or travelling on trains and planes. The first things I had published were poems - you might come across some of them in poetry collections for children. Here’s one of my favourites:

At King Arthur’s court,

Where his knights are bold,

They’re busy playing cricket.

King Arthur’s caught!

His knights are bowled!

And Merlin’s leg-before-wicket.

My first picture book, ‘Under the Bed’, was published in 2003. The second book, ‘Quiet!’ was shortlisted for the Blue Peter Book Award (it didn’t win but I got a Blue Peter badge!). I’ve now had about 20 picture books published. In 2016 I was one of four authors chosen to write new Winnie-the-Pooh stories for Pooh’s 90th birthday in a collection called ‘The Best Bear in All the World’ (reissued in a bright purple colour to celebrate Pooh’s centenary in 2026).

Happy Reading!
