Nature has been my grounding force from the time I could climb the elm tree in my Kentucky backyard. Lounging in that tree, taking in the birds-eye-view, was my happy place. Eventually, nature became a defining element in my work. My first published article was about geoduck clams in a seafood industry magazine, followed by some articles about commercial fishing when I was hand-trolling for salmon in Southeast Alaska's "mosquito fleet." With those quirky starts, I was off and running. I take great joy in writing about the natural world, my most patient teacher and oldest friend. My latest children’s picture book, ALASKA IS FOR THE BIRDS!, is all about spreading bird joy and inspiring a new generation of bird lovers.
