Josef Arnould is a writer, teacher, doctor, and poet whose work reveals a lifelong conviction: freedom is not a human right that we can assume, but rather, a quality of life for which each of us must strive relentlessly.
During more than forty years as a chiropractic physician and physical fitness educator, Dr. Arnould has studied intensely the beneficial effects of consistent and intelligent exercise and sound nutritional habits upon the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of his patients and trainees. These careful observations inspired five previous nonfiction books, which include the Strength for LifeŽ series—Stronger After 40, Neck Strength for Life, and Abdominal Strength for Life! Volumes 1 and 2—and a detailed work on nutrition, American Diet Revolution!
Arnould’s interest in freedom extends beyond instructional works in the field of health, In videocasts on his You-Tube channel, Poems Recited by Heart, he champions the great tradition of poetry recited aloud and from memory. These include recitations of his own poems—each of which centers upon the pursuit of freedom—as well as of works by other great poets who express the human struggle for liberty.
In his first novel, Survival, Healing, and Human-Horse Bonds, Arnould uses the medium of fiction to expand our understanding of how the quest for freedom affects our daily lives. Set amid the beauty and harshness of rural southern New Mexico, the novel follows several unforgettable human and animal characters who struggle to overcome trauma, abuse, prejudice, and disease. As these characters fight to survive, heal, and thrive, remarkable powers of family love and amazing unspoken bonds between humans and horses are revealed.
Whether he is teaching about physical strength and fitness, reciting poetry at the top of his lungs, or writing of the bonds between humans and animals, Josef Arnould attempts to amplify one central belief: the active pursuit of freedom helps each one of us to realize our individual potential to become a thoughtful, loving, generous, and self-directed human being.
