Bruce T. Morrill

Bruce Morrill holds the Edward A. Malloy Chair in Roman Catholic Studies at Vanderbilt University, where he is Distinguished Professor of Theology in the Divinity School and Graduate Department of Religion. His sacramental-liturgical theology draws upon the resources of systematic and historical theology, ritual studies, cultural anthropology, and biblical studies. His other primary and strongly related interest is in political theologies, as they investigate the problems of suffering in social contexts. He is a past president of the North American Academy of Liturgy.

A Roman Catholic priest and Jesuit, he has lectured widely in North America, Europe, and Australia, while also keeping involved in various forms of pastoral work. In Nashville he presides and preaches regularly at area parishes and provides pastoral-liturgical ministry to men and women at three state prison facilities. Over the past two decades he has made numerous pastoral service trips to Yup'ik eskimo villages in western Alaska, most recently for Holy Week/Easter 2019.
