Robbin D. Knapp was born on Christmas Day, 1959, in Denver, Colorado, and as a Navy brat grew up in California, Massachusetts, New York, Connecticut, and Virginia. After receiving a bachelor's degree in biology from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, he worked briefly for a conservation organization in Minneapolis. He then joined the Peace Corps as a fisheries extension officer in Tanzania, where he met his wife, also doing development work. They raised two daughters in her native Austria, where he works as a software developer. Knapp's first love is still biology and the outdoors, but his many interests also include linguistics and genealogy, which is reflected in his first three books.
