Daniel Spiro

Daniel Spiro grew up in Bethesda, Maryland, a suburb of Washington, D.C. He studied philosophy and economics while an undergraduate at Stanford University and then went on to Harvard Law School. He works full-time as an attorney and has spent a quarter of a century investigating and litigating against corporate fraud.

At around the age of 40, Daniel had a mid-life crisis and decided to start writing books and creating community organizations. In 2001, he co-founded the Washington Spinoza Society and has coordinated that society ever since. In 2009, he became the co-founder and coordinator of the Jewish-Islamic Dialogue Society of Washington, D.C., and is now involved in a variety of interfaith organizations. His first novel, the Creed Room, was published in 2006. A second novel, Moses the Heretic, came out two years later. His first work of non-fiction, Liberating the Holy Name: A Free-Thinker Grapples with the Meaning of Divinity, will be released in the summer of 2014.

Daniel is also active in working for peace in the Middle East and blogs weekly under the name "Empathic Rationalist." He is a vegan, an animal lover, a music aficionado, and a passionate sports fan. Daniel's website is www.danielspiro.com.
