Elizabeth Elder

This author looks back on her 78 years with astonishment, some humor, and a major dose of gratitude. Her most recent book, The Veiled Sayings, weaves those sentiments into the fiber of a theology that finds some correlation in the long lost and recently unearthed Gospel of Thomas. The Veiled Sayings is a Readers' Favorite 5-star-rated book.

Elizabeth was born in North Carolina, second daughter of a Southern mother and a New England father who had been stationed at Fort Bragg in Fayetteville. The family moved to Rhode Island when Elizabeth was a child. She thereupon settled into her New England roots and years later, after marrying and with two young children, moved her family to Maine where she lived for 26 years, writing for the local newspaper, editing three subsequent weekly papers, sharing ownership and operation of a neighborhood store, and sinking into the rural culture while maintaining the outsider presence she never could escape, no matter where she put down all the heavy furniture.

The book in the works at this writing is a novel about a fictional Maine town. It spans 75 years of a family—five sisters and their progeny and various connections—and involves several mysteries and deceptions that do tend to thrive in seemingly idyllic places.

Elizabeth lives now in Putnam County, New York.
